English summary: The old theory say that the bees is clustret together and can’t move sideways. The only possible way is up and the cluster will move upwards as they eat the honey store. If tehy reach the roof they might starve even if there are plenty of honey on the sides. On the contrary, this is not true for an insulated condensating hive where the high temperature below the roof allows the bees to move freely – even sideways if needed.

När det blir kallt sätter sig bina i ett tätt kluster och kan enbart röra sig uppåt genom att hela klustret rör sig samtidigt. Bina kan inte röra sig i sidled vilket innebär att bina kan svälta ihjäl även fast det finns gott om mat vid sidan om klustret.
Det här är ett gammalt påstående som, så många andra myter, inte stämmer om man isolerar kuporna ordentligt. I en isolerad kupa, som tillåts kondensera på sidorna, blir det aldrig särskilt kallt och bina kan röra sig relativt fritt. Ser man dessutom till att isolera ordentligt uppåt kommer bina att samlas i den övre delen, eftersom det är varmast där, och bina kan röra sig fritt i sidled vid behov. Det var ungefär -2 när detta filmades och som man kan se rör sig bina fritt under taket.
