English summary: We have given the small colonies complementary sugar where we use feeding boxes with a nice feature – a plastic shield that separates the bees from the syrup and hence avoid that too many bees drown. It also makes it quite easy to add more syrup, in case more syrup must be added, since one can just lift the top and pour as much as needed and the bees are trapped on the other side.
During todays check of the weekly mitefall I noticed a couple that were still alive. With a bottom screen these mites can’t climb up again and are trapped on the sticky board.
It might be an indication that the bees clean out mites but it is also possible that they just fell off a bee.
De små samhällena har vi gett lite socker, eftersom de är för små för att kunna dra in någon större mängd nektar och behöver tiden för att processa sockret ordentligt. Vi använder Bifor, så slipper vi slabbet och det blir lättare för bina, samt en matarlåda med en snillrik plastbit som avskiljare vilket minskar risken att bina ska drunkna.
Vid dagens kontroll av nedfall hittade jag några levande kvalster – endera har de ramlat av ett bi eller så har de städats bort. Det är även möjligt att bina har putsat bort dem men då brukar frambenen vara rejält skadade. Hur som helst – nätbotten gör att dessa inte kan ta sig tillbaks upp på ett bi vilket gör att man blir av med några fler kvalster.
